10/03/07 Variable on Both Sides of an Equation

Make up an equation that has a variable on both sides of the equation and explain how to solve it. Can you think of a real-world problem that your equation represents? Please state the homework assignment.

My equation is 10x+16=5x+20. You would first take away the 5x from both sides. Then you would take away 16 from both sides. You would have 5x=4 then you would divide and the answer is 0.8. It could represent test scores. The homework was Page 157, 3-14 and 50

My equation would be 5x+40=25x. you would first subtract 5x from both sides. Resulting in 40=20x. You would then divide 20 on both side and you would get 2 as the answer. This could represent how much a person would earn at a job per day. The homework tonight is p171, 3-15 odd, 19-29 odd, 39
